The ash, flames and kiln gods truly smiled down on this sweet little lidded jar … coil built with a rustic lid and craggy little donut handle.

Like this rest of this series, I used an iron rich, ‘old school’ stoneware body. A heavy exterior wash of cobalt and iron left hints of deep blue on the lid and, with the magical aid of the wood and salt firing, deposited gorgeous rivulets of melted ash along one side and left a beautiful pebbled surface on the opposite. The liner glaze is a deep ochre with crushed cobalt blue and Coke bottle aqua beach glass, from my beloved North Beach in Port Townsend, WA, to create a wonderful pool of sea blues and greens at the base.
