russet pedestal cup pair

russet pedestal cup pair

$48.00

Wood and salt fired pinchpot pedestal cups, russet with ochre liner glaze and sea glass melt in the base.

For this series I’m using an iron rich, ‘old school’ stoneware body. I decided to make these cups in pairs, roughly similar in size and shape, but in a decidedly wabi/sabi way. These little pedestal cups feel wonderful in the hand and are perfect for sipping whiskey, aperitifs or a small cup of wine.

For each cup, I pinch the pedestal and cup into form, then add slim coils to level out the rims. They have an exterior wash of cobalt and iron that, with the magical aid of the wood and salt firing, produced the lustrous, almost metallic, russet exteriors with rivulets of melted ash here and there. The liner glaze is a warm, mottled ochre with crushed cobalt blue and Coke bottle aqua beach glass, from my beloved North Beach in Port Townsend, WA, inside the cups to create a wonderful pool of sea blues and greens at the base.

Very much one-of-a-kind!

Approximately 2.5in diameter x 2.75in tall

All my ceramics are food safe and can go in the microwave as well as in the dishwasher. Avoid thermal shocks that could damage the pieces.
